It’s summer. Your alarm rings at 5:50am….
Again at 6:00am…
And again at 6:20am. Finally, you hop out of bed and log onto Ticketmaster.
Get in the waiting room at 6:45am… more waiting.
7:00am hits and you are 2000+ in the queue. The little bar is moving so slowly as the time goes up. You finally drop past 2000+ but you know tickets are dwindling.
1050 people…
780 people in front of you…
443 people….
Finally, you are next in line. When you go to check out it says tickets are unavailable. You didn’t get them.
Common occurrences
This is how most stories go for students that go to Penn State University when they are trying to get Football tickets. Over 50% of students have had one year that they were not able to obtain football tickets. The most common themes that we see are people getting kicked out of the queue, their payment option not working, lagged and they ran out of tickets.
Student stories
Another students shares their ticket horror story with us. His story sounds like the majority. He woke up and logged on his laptop and had a few separate devices. The first device went down past 2000+ but the queue was moving slowly. When he finally got close…. he got kicked out. The good news was that he still had his other device but time was ticking because there was less and less tickets every second. The second one finally went down and when he was inputting the credit card information it lagged and kicked him out again. His junior year, he was not able to obtain student tickets. He had to spend over $350 to get tickets to all the games that he wanted to. As an already broke college student, this is frustrating to have to go through and watch.
It is unfortunate that this is what we have to go through this process. When I conducted my survey, I asked for some suggestions to how to make this process better. They were about the same but two that stood out to me was prepare the software of the website for the number of people that will be online. I know the same thing happens with other artist that use Ticketmaster not just football tickets. Being able to prepare the software for the amount of activity that will be online would help. Another suggestion was allocating the number of tickets better so that everyone that wants one can get one. This way there aren’t bots or people that aren’t going to go to the games and just sell their tickets for profit.
The best solution would be to come up with a new and improved version of Ticketmaster that ensures a safe and not as stressful way to obtain football tickets. Feel free to share with us your horror story by emailing [email protected]!
